About REAGAN COUNTRY: A PASTOR STEPHEN GRANT NOVEL, the second Amazon review gave it 5 stars and declared:
"Having already read and enjoyed all of the other Pastor Stephen Grant novels, I took a chance and pre-ordered Reagan Country, even though it is priced higher than I am usually willing to pay for Kindle books. Once notified it was on my Kindle, I read Reagan Country right away yesterday and today, and am very glad I did. Although I was scared to death of Ronald Reagan back in 1980, based on all the horrible things being said about him by both Republicans and Democrats, I've since come to think of him as a great President for exactly the same reasons cited by characters in this book - his love of America and advocacy of personal freedom for people everywhere, along with his cheerful optimism and clear understandable explanations of his ideas.
"This book is about a similar character arising in Russia, and the challenges he and the ongoing Steven Grant characters face in trying to bring a message of hope and freedom to a land that has rarely enjoyed either for long.
"There is plenty of politics in this book, but without the recent death cage match vibe of actual recent politics. In this book, we read about honest people of good character from both major U.S. parties, working together for core American and Christian values.
"There is the usual tension between Pastor Grant's role as a Christian minister and his role as a highly-skilled bodyguard. (I wondered how the author would convince a pastor like Grant to go to Russia as a temporary bodyguard, but his doing so made sense as described, lacking only a sense of his asking God's opinion on the idea.)
"One thing I particularly liked about this novel is that it brought closure to opposition characters, rather than letting them implausibly escape until yet another book.
"Another thing I particularly liked about this novel is its focus on explaining the value of free market economics. The author is an economist, and I too have a degree in economics, so really appreciated the clear defense by Grant's economist wife on how best to grow a business to benefit both workers and managers.
"And then there were the monks - not just grilling or making candles this time, but making a real difference on-line.
"Overall, a very enjoyable and satisfying read. Definitely recommended."
