He has developed some well-rounded characters, including a pastor who struggles with sin just as much as his parishioners. There were several flashback stories featuring Stephen Grant and a couple of other characters we’ve met before. That continues to round out the characters. In addition to action that draws Stephen in with each book, relationships are explored, with Stephen and Jennifer, as well as others. One of the recurring themes from book to book is Christian marriage, with a specific example in these two people. In one of the previous books it was said that Stephen “relished” the trust that he and Jennifer share, and that is once again highlighted in this story. There is more focus on Jennifer’s career (and Stephen’s pride in what she has accomplished), and she is more involved in what takes place. This book ranges the furthest geographically of any of the previous books, from Long Island to California to DC to Russia and back again to Long Island. Stephen’s faith drives him, what he does, how he sees life, and even how he interacts with his wife. I look forward to the next adventure and continuing to drop in on Stephen, Jennifer, and the many other recurring characters.”
