Pastor Stephen Grant?

Stephen Grant is the pastor at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church on eastern Long Island. Grant is one of the more unique second-career clergy around, as he once worked for the CIA. Besides theology, his interests include archery, golf, writing, classic films, the beach, poker, baseball, and history. Grant also knows his wines, champagnes and brews. Oh yes, he generally dislikes politicians, and happens to be an expert marksman with a handgun and a rifle, while being pretty handy with a combat knife as well.

Zobo, Anyone?

From Warrior Monk: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel by Ray Keating:

Santos said, “Did Father Alou also fill you in on Pope Augustine’s affinity for zobo from his Nigerian homeland?”Each of the four members of the media said no. Father Alou apologized.Santos explained, “Given that you four are being given special access to the Pope, for a more intimate conversation about his ‘Public Mission of Mere Christianity,’ he will offer each of you a glass. This has become something of a tradition when his Eminence hosts guests. Zobo is a favorite drink from his homeland of Nigeria, made from a herb and mixed with water, sugar, juice, ice, and usually some soda water as well.”
“Yes,” said Wallace, “I read about it. I was wondering if we might be treated to this African fare.”
