Pastor Stephen Grant?

Stephen Grant is the pastor at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church on eastern Long Island. Grant is one of the more unique second-career clergy around, as he once worked for the CIA. Besides theology, his interests include archery, golf, writing, classic films, the beach, poker, baseball, and history. Grant also knows his wines, champagnes and brews. Oh yes, he generally dislikes politicians, and happens to be an expert marksman with a handgun and a rifle, while being pretty handy with a combat knife as well.

Big 4-Star Review of "The River"

A new 4-star review on Amazon.com of The River: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel declares:

"Pastor Stephen Grant is an enigmatic character. Ray Keating masterfully weaves his character's past and present lives, always keeping the reader involved in both the action and Grant's emotional struggle. Although I do not like the short chapter style, I was otherwise held captive from start to finish. I certainly recommend this book to anyone that likes a good, fast-moving thriller."

"This is a great read, with a strong plot, great characters, and solid reflection on the meaning of faith and ethics in a world of violence. When trouble hits his Lutheran parish, what is former Navy SEAL and ex-CIA operative Reverend Stephen Grant to do?"

Who Is Stephen Grant?

Who is Stephen Grant? He gives us some basics in the following excerpt from The River: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel:

“Sheriff, I understand your position, but you can spare the soothing crap, and the baseless promises. Before my pastor days, I was a SEAL and then CIA. I know the realities of situations like this. We need – or you need – to move quickly.”
Hanson sighed. “SEAL, CIA, now a pastor – really?” He shook his head. “Anyway, you’re right. Moving quickly is what we’ve done...”

Paige Caldwell in action!

Excerpt from The River: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel by Ray Keating:

"While the Iranian gave a look of resignation, the Israeli initially panicked. He slid his chair back. But before he could get fully to his feet, Caldwell struck like a cobra. She had her arm tightly around his neck in a second, and whispered in his ear, 'You have two choices. We leave you dead poolside, or you quietly come with us. Which is it?'"

Conservative Fiction Counterculture and Pastor Stephen Grant Novels

Is conservative fiction part of a new counterculture? The debate goes on at National Review.

If so, count Ray Keating’s PASTOR STEPHEN GRANT NOVELS as part of the movement.

Former American Conservative Union and NRA President David Keene says, “The Stephen Grant novels are great reads beginning with ‘Warrior Monk,’ which aptly describes Ray Keating's engaging hero.”

In a Washington Times review, Pastor and former CIA analyst Kenn Blanchard writes: “Ray Keating's latest novel, ‘The River,’ takes you on an intriguing summer ride… Mr. Keating also allows you to discover how each of his characters tick in a style and tone reminiscent of some of the best-loved books of all time.”

Keating has been called “a great novelist” by the host of KFUO’S “BookTalk” radio, with other Amazon.com reviewers comparing his thrillers to the works of Clancy, Ludlum, Grisham, Cussler, and Morrell.

Join the new counterculture, read all four thrillers – WARRIOR MONK, ROOT OF ALL EVIL?, AN ADVENT FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY, and THE RIVER.

Book Excerpt and Kenny Chesney?

Book excerpt from The River: A Pastor Stephen Grant Novel with Kenny Chesney mentioned? Nice for the upcoming July 4th weekend:

Jennifer’s phone played a ringtone – “Makes Me Wonder” by Kenny Chesney – from inside her briefcase. “Ladies, just give me a second to answer this.”
Taylor smiled. “I love Kenny Chesney.”
Jennifer said, “Me, too.” She slipped a strap off her shoulder, and placed the thin briefcase on the sidewalk.
